Fat
Freddys Drop - Germany Tour 2005 |

Time for the good ones to
shine!
Accessible yet deep, shapeshifting, soul drippin`, utterly
harmonic and f***** brilliant is what comes to my mind
when asked about the Drop from Down Under.
Enlightening that 99% of the pals i speak to think the
same, period...
Backed with their first full length going by the name
of
"Based On A True Story", New Zealands` Fat
Freddys Drop have gone a long way since their formation
in the nineties, always wandering the path less travelled,
not relying on big media campaigns, videos or single
frenzy but instead building their reputation within
the scene through a few excellent vinyl singles and
lo-o-o-ts of live gigs.
Without a doubt this attitude and approach is paying
off now, gaining a critically acclaimed worldwide status
that has seldomly been witnessed before. A small example:
Preorders on their debut album have been immense, following
from that "Based On A True Story" gained goldstatus
in NZ on its release day (now at double platinum), immediately
holding the pole position in the NZ Charts being the
first ever independently released album that made it
to No1!.
No messing around, FFD are here to stay and they are just
about to hit germany with their unique blend of reggae,
dub & jazz all spiced up with that certain bit of
aotearoa soultek second to none. Not to miss! |

What about them live? |
|
 |
 |
|
One of the many things
that makes FFD inevitably stand out-and-at the forefront
of nowadays liveacts is the very fact that their concerts
are more an open jam session than a rehearsed "show",
getting around playing the same songs note by note every
night.
Not for nothing that FFD picked up a pile of TUI Awards
at this years´New Zealand Music Awards, amongst
them Album Of The Year, Best Group + most importantly,
the People’s Choice Award...
The entity of the Drop`s horn section, Mu on the MPC,
Dallas` falsetto vocals, Tehimana on guitar duties and
Iain on keys can best be witnessed live and is an event
that you shouldn`t let pass, frankly spoken...
"Best soul singer in the world
today?
I vote for Dallas Tamaira. From Fat Freddy’s Drop"
Charlie Gillett (BBC)
“One of the best live sessions of 2004 for
WorldWide”
Gilles Peterson (BBC Radio 1)
"Definitely one of the best live shows I've seen
in One World Live, if not the BEST!"
BBC 1 World Live @ Notting Hill Arts Club
"Amazing, we love Fat Freddy's Drop"
Judy, Fabric London
